Lisa Bowen, Health and Wellness Coach
Hello!
Thank you for coming to see me.
I am devoted to helping people conceive a vision and take action to improve their own health.
In my case, I needed to learn to breathe better.
I first experienced asthma when I was four after a family tragedy. Then as a school girl, I became severely allergic to all sorts of furry animals too. I didn't go to most friends' houses because they had pets. I really wanted to anyway, and the one time I did, it didn't go well. At a friend's birthday sleepover in the second grade, I woke up everybody in the middle of the night with my wheezing. The experience was so humiliating I can count on one hand the nights I was not at home after that, until I left for college.
Over the decades my asthma waxed and waned. In my mid-40s it came back with a vengeance when the scales tipped over 200 pounds. Over time I learned several breathing techniques, got into a less stressful business and lost 100 pounds. These days asthma and allergies don't rule my life anymore. And I have two dogs!
The American College of Lifestyle Medicine reports that 80% of health-care costs come from ill health due to risky lifestyle or self-management choices. My job is not to advise you what to do since I am not a licensed healthcare professional, but to guide you toward awareness of self-care options and how to engage them if you choose.
Wherever you are starting from, you can probably feel at least a little bit more in control of your situation, and hopefully a lot more at ease.
About 11 years ago I suffered from the worst asthma attack ever and when I looked for a new solution, I discovered the power of breathing retraining to improve my condition. The following year I became a breathing educator under the auspices of the Buteyko Breathing Educators Association.
I had learned the tools of breathing retraining well and taught them skillfully, but I felt something was missing. I wanted to discover how to help people uncover their true goals and motivation to reach them. That took me on a journey to become a professional health and wellness coach. I am certified by Wellcoaches and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine as well as The National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching. I serve clients with all sorts of priorities, including weight loss, a desire for increased exercise, diabetes self-management, high blood-pressure reduction, and other health conditions.
I live in a half-hour drive north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was born in San Francisco, and went to college at the University of California at Davis.
